"You see", he said, "her heaven is gateless. Her heaven isn’t peopled with the smiling faces of departed family and friends, each happier than the next to see you. There is no voice-of-God welcoming her to everlasting bliss. And there is, in the final analysis no judgement”.
“I think”, she said, “heaven is a place where you will have answers to all your questions. As love is perfect kindness, heaven is perfect understanding.” With those words, he recognized that her sense of life wound tightly around his own. For his heaven was not the absence of mystery, but the attainment of understanding.
